I will be returning to school full time (13 hours) in 5 DAYS!!
I was careful in selecting the days/times of my classes since I also have a full time career and a photography business. Luckily, I was able to create a schedule with some consistency… and that ends EARLY! My classes are Monday through Thursday from roughly 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. with only one late night till 8:40 p.m.! Not bad! Not bad at all, I say. In fact, hardly anyone in my life will notice the difference in my schedule despite the additional load.
The only problem with this plan was that my work schedule was 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Therefore, it required adjustment to 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in order to get to class on time. If you know me, you know that I have always struggled with getting out of bed in the morning. I am simply not a morning person and it has been hard enough waking up at 5:45 a.m. in order to get to work for 7:30. My new schedule means that I have to drag my butt out of bed at 4:45 a.m.!! Holy Cow!
So I decided to test it out this week in order to adjust my internal clock before next week and have been extremely surprised by the results! I love everything about the new schedule. I drive to work while it’s still dark, I no longer hit any traffic during either my commute in or return route (adding a total of one hour back to my day!!), it is easier to find a parking spot in our crowded lot, I have more time to work in peace before others get to work, it’s time to leave before I know it, it’s still daylight when I leave, and I still have energy to be amazingly productive when I get home.
So how did I get past the waking up part, you may be wondering? I found an incredible app for my iphone that has truly changed my life. It is called ‘Bed Time’. You can enter what time you need to wake up and it gives you multiple options for bed times so that you wake up at the end of a completed sleep cycle. This leaves you feeling refreshed instead of groggy in the morning. (Alternatively, you can also enter what time you are going to bed and it gives you suggested times to set your alarm). After trying it out for the past few days, I am a believer. I went to bed at roughly 12:30 a.m. last night, followed the bed time app, woke up on time this morning, and have been extremely energetic/productive today. I am about to go to bed now in order to feel the same way tomorrow! 🙂
